GEW Technologies and Spectrum Research Consultancy (Mr Jan Verduijn) presented a 3-day Spectrum Monitoring course from 8 to 10 April 2014 for the local Telecommunications Regulator (ICASA).
Jan Verduijn has vast experience in the ITU field, having served as Chairman of ITU-R SG1 WP1C from 2003 to 2012. Excellent theoretical knowledge was share by Jan on the key elements in Spectrum Management i.e Frequency Management (PLANS), Licensing (PERMITS) and Enforcement (VERIFIES).
The role of Monitoring was again stated as to support these key-elements in order to realise a usable and interference free frequency spectrum. Practical demonstrations/exercises were conducted with the DF & Monitoring equipment (SkyLark7050C and Skyi7000) to empower the ICASA trainees with the “hands-on feel” on how the execute the various tasks required in spectrum monitoring.
The next Spectrum Monitoring course will be presented on 7 to 9 October 2014.
